hippopotamus hippopotamus hippopotamus

In the spirit of Dornan, Rosen, and Wilson's descriptions of their own personal writing process -- and also our discussion on Tuesday of images as text -- this is a 20-second photographic reflection on my own writing process, composed in an expressive (not poetic or transactional) style.

As a freewriting resource, I like the CreativeWritingPrompts.com website. Move your mouse over any number from 1 to 302 for a different prompt that may propel you from writing "hippopotamus" over and over again to something meaningful and inspiring.

Hey, cool idea! What a great way to represent visually how you reflected on your writing process. I can see using this with students in the classroom too-- it would be similar to our photographic philosophy assignment, in that students would have to chose images and explain why they relate or how they are a metaphor to who they are as writers. I think it's pretty useful for us as teachers to reflect on our own writing processes... how can we expect students to put effort into it if we don't ourselves?

Also, I really liked the creative writing link you pointed out. I'm always interested in finding interesting and creative prompts. It's probably important to have some writing be completely open-ended, but I think for a lot of activities, assignments, or journal writing, prompts are a good way to get started.
